Aying

Aying is a picturesque village. What immediately strikes you when you enter this place is a more than oversized maypole that leaves its mark on the center of the village. Such a maypole is erected on May 1 to enforce the fertility of animals, fields, and people. In most regions of Germany, the tree is taken down after a month, while in Bavaria the maypoles remain for a whole year. On a gigantic terrace, villagers sit in traditional costumes. In Bavaria, this means Lederhosen for men and Dirndls for women. To an outsider, this may seem a bit carnival-like, but here it is the most ordinary thing in the world. It has its charm. We eat a soup that is typical of the region: broth with eggs, bacon, and bread. Simple and delicious, and it keeps the Lederhosen in place.
