Hetschburg is a municipality in the southern part of the Weimarer Land district and part of the administrative community of Mellingen.
The narrow Ilm valley and the surrounding high plateaus such as Adelsberg, Böhmer Wäldchen, Knottenberg, and Röhmberg offer little space for the expansion of the town. Hetschburg is located traffic-wise between the B 87, which runs right past the town, and the B 85 located at the elevation north of the town.
