The municipality is located on federal highway 203 approximately halfway between Heide and Rendsburg in an Eider bend on the eastern border of Dithmarschen.
Neighboring municipalities, in clockwise order starting from the north, are the municipalities of Dellstedt, Hamdorf, and Prinzenmoor as well as Osterrade and Süderdorf.
