Johannes Bückler, better known as Schinderhannes, was born in 1779 in Miehlen, although there is still some doubt about this. Johannes Bückler, nicknamed Schinderhannes, was a German bandit who, in his short life (he was at most 24 when he was executed), was co-responsible for about 130 crimes. He was mainly responsible for thefts, extortion, and robberies. He almost always operated together with others, usually in a small group of three to seven people. 93 other criminals with whom he collaborated have been identified. He was active in the area along both banks of the Rhine, especially in the Hunsrück and the area to the north of it in what is now the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. However, Bückler also regularly made excursions to the surrounding areas, which now belong to the states of Hesse and Saarland.
