Niederwiesa is a municipality adjacent to the major city of Chemnitz in the district of Mittelsachsen. Since January 1, 1996, it includes the districts of Niederwiesa, Braunsdorf, and Lichtenwalde. Approximately 5,000 residents live on 16.36 square kilometers. The restored Lichtenwalde Castle with its extensive Baroque garden is well-known.
The municipality of Niederwiesa is located on the Zschopau River, about ten kilometers east of Chemnitz city center.
