Large Schweidnitz

Grossschweidnitz is a Saxon municipality in the district of Görlitz. It is located south of the town of Löbau, to whose administrative community it belongs.

The place Grossschweidnitz, founded as a forest strip village, stretches in the valley of the Grossschweidnitz water from the Höllengrund, the confluence of the Litte, to the border of Kleinschweidnitz and the Nonnenberg. It is interspersed with green spaces as well as extensive and partly old tree stock. The adjoining area of Kleinschweidnitz to the northeast has irregular, unequal, and block-like plots with scattered houses. Unusual for Upper Lusatia, there are hardly any post-and-beam houses in the village, but there is a large village school, many villa-like residential houses, and a beautiful railway viaduct from 1847. A point of attraction for hikers is the "Höllengrund," a legendary rock valley with a mountain stream and a solitary "forest house."
