Ecklingerode is a municipality in the Thuringian district of Eichsfeld, located about three kilometers east of Duderstadt directly on the border with Lower Saxony. It belongs to the administrative community of Lindenberg/Eichsfeld.
The first documented mention dates back to a deed of gift by Count Hermann von Harzburg and his brother Count von Werder from the year 1221. From the 14th century until the beginning of the 19th century, Ecklingerode was part of the Westerhagenschen Gericht Berlingerode. The sovereign until 1802 was Kurmainz. From 1802 to 1807, the place was Prussian and then became part of the Kingdom of Westphalia. From 1815 to 1945, it was part of the Prussian province of Saxony.
