Kriebstein is a municipality in the district of Mittelsachsen. The administrative seat is located in the district of Kriebethal.
Kriebstein is situated about 20 kilometers southwest of Döbeln and six kilometers northeast of the town of Mittweida. The Zschopau, a tributary of the Freiberger Mulde, flows through the narrow and rocky Mittweidaer Zschopautal on its way from Mittweida to Waldheim, where the Kriebstein dam and the castle of the same name are also located. This rugged rocky landscape attracts many visitors seeking relaxation and thus forms the basis for the slowly developing tourism in the municipality.
