Ramstedt is located about twelve kilometers southeast of Husum and about five kilometers northeast of Friedrichstadt in a rural area. To the south of the municipality runs the federal highway 202, which connects Friedrichstadt with Rendsburg. Ramstedt directly adjoins Schwabstedt to the northwest.
The municipality is situated on the border of the Eider-Treene lowland with its vast moorlands and the Geest.
