The concentration camp Uelzen existed in the city of Uelzen as an external camp of the concentration camp Neuengamme from February 1945 until the end of the war. Up to 500 prisoners were employed in cleanup operations after air raids.
The Uelzen concentration camp was established when the goods station in Uelzen was destroyed by bombings from the American air fleets. At the request of the Reichsbahn, 500 concentration camp inmates from the main camp Neuengamme were transferred to Uelzen at the end of February 1945 into the first floor of a warehouse to clean up the station and track facilities after the attacks. The commander of this camp located on the grounds of a sugar factory was Otto Harder, nicknamed Tull, a former football player of HSV.
