At the beginning of the 19th century Ludwig van Beethoven lived in Vienna, but in 1809 he pretended to come to Kassel to become a kappelmaster. He wanted to stay in Vienna, but then the nobility had to guarantee him a steady income. His bluff worked. On 26 February he received the contract he wanted with an annual fee of 4000 florins.
