Altenwerder is a quarter in the Harburg borough of the Free and Hanseatic city of Hamburg in northern Germany. In the 1970s the city of Hamburg announced the formal dispossession of all property to build the Container Terminal Altenwerder. The terminal started its operation in 2003. Altenwerder is a quarter almost without population. In 2016 the population was 3.
Around 1418 the settlement was newly dyked, because of a treaty between the Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg and Johann Slamsdorp, the Prince-Archbishop of Bremen, both local lords to the settlement.
