Heerte is one of the 31 districts of the city of Salzgitter in Lower Saxony, Germany. Heerte belonged to the district of Wolfenbüttel until 31 March 1942 and became part of the city of Watenstedt-Salzgitter by an administrative act on 1 April 1942. On January 23, 1951, it was officially renamed Salzgitter.
Today's army was first mentioned in 1022 in Bishop Bernward's founding document of the monastery of St. Michael in Hildesheim. In this document, the monastery is awarded church lands between Hedelendorp and Dusuhem.
