Rheinhausen-Mitte is a district of Duisburg in the Rheinhausen district. It has a population of 10,666 . It has only existed as a specially designated district since the municipal reorganization, i.e. the incorporation of the city of Rheinhausen into the city of Duisburg on January 1, 1975. Previously, the area in question belonged to the district in the northern part, before 1923 to the mayor's office of Hochemmerich and the southern part to the district, before 1923 to the mayor's office of Friemersheim. In the area of Rheinhausen-Mitte were the farming communities of Atrop and Schwarzenberg. From the beginning of the 1950s, the largely undeveloped area was referred to as the "city core area"; this is where Rheinhausen's new city centre was to be built.
