The district Südviertel of the city of Essen, together with the Westviertel, the Nordviertel, the Ostviertel, the Südostviertel, and the city center, forms the city center.
More than any other district, the Südviertel, with its office skyscrapers, shapes the skyline of the city of Essen. Here, among others, Evonik Industries AG, RWE AG, Evonik Steag GmbH, Hochtief AG, MAN Ferrostaal AG, and until 2014, the technology division of ThyssenKrupp AG have their headquarters.
