Osterlinde is one of the 31 districts of the district-free city of Salzgitter in Lower Saxony, located in the village of Nordwest. Osterlinde belonged to the district of Wolfenbüttel until 31 March 1942 and became part of the city of Watenstedt-Salzgitter by an administrative act on 1 April 1942. On January 23, 1951, it was officially renamed Salzgitter.
Osterlinde was first mentioned in a document in 1151. The village is located on the Hildesheimer Heerstraße and has suffered greatly from warlike events in the course of its history.
