The Friedrichroda Mountain Hotel is a holiday and conference hotel opened in 1980 as the "August Bebel" recreation home of the FDGB, located on Reinhardsberg at the outskirts of the spa town of Friedrichroda in the Thuringian Forest.
The Friedrichroda Mountain Hotel was opened in 1980 as the "August Bebel" recreation home of the GDR trade union FDGB. The building complex erected on Reinhardsberg was the largest and one of the most modern FDGB holiday homes. It was primarily reserved for deserving citizens and families with children from the GDR. During GDR times, the hotel had 1,500 beds. Some records from the time as an FDGB recreation home are archived in the Museum of Regional History and Folklore in Gotha.
