The Casino Travemünde was one of the oldest casinos in Germany until 2012. The first official casino was opened in 1825 in Travemünde.
Joachim Christian Grube, who had been a co-tenant of the restaurant since 1808, set up a casino in the lodging house that had belonged to Dr. med. Danzmann since 1816. After Danzmann sold it to Grube in 1820, he became the sole operator. Grube, in turn, sold his expanded premises in 1833 for 116,300 Marks Courant to Heinrich Behrens.
