During World War II, the city was largely destroyed by Allied bombing raids, but after the war, Münster was rebuilt in its old style. The cathedral or Dom of Münster was also targeted. In his book The Bomb Mafia, author Malcolm Gladwell elaborates on this. 'If the British wanted to hit the German war industry, they took it for granted to 'evict' the German workers in one go. Thus the civilian population became a legitimate target.' However, there was not even a war industry located in Münster. The target was this Dom. And that on Sunday morning, when people attended mass.
