Ramsdorf is a borough of Velen in the district of Borken, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Actually, there were originally two municipalities, Ramsdorf and Kirchspiel Ramsdorf.
Ramsdorf, originally called Ransdorp, was initially a village, until the Battle of Bredevoort broke out. When Count Reinald II of Guelders laid claim to the territory and jurisdiction of Honberg by purchasing the lordship of Bermentfelde, the bishop of Münster immediately had the village of Ramsdorf fortified on 25 May 1319 and granted the village market rights, among other things. They were not full city rights; Ramsdorf thus became a wigbold, between the status of a city and that of a village. In the year 1323, Johan van Bermentvelde of Ramsdorf and his son Gerhard had entered into a feud with the bishop of Münster. At the same time, a conflict between Otto von Ahaus and the Counts of Steinfurt took place, in which the bailiffs of Nienborg had sided with the Steinfurters. Gerhard van Bermentvelde was married to Gozita van Nienborg. Because of the danger of further spread of this feud, Johan and his son Gerhard van Bermentvelde had to renounce their fief right against the Count of Guelders to the lordship of Bermentvelde in 1323. Under the administration and with the approval of a certificate from Hendrik I van Wisch as a relative and Gelderland's ambtman, the Bermentvelders transferred their fief right to Johannis van Doring, who was now endowed with it.
