The Gildehauser Venn is a moorland and heathland area in the border area of the county of Bentheim, North Rhine-Westphalia and the Netherlands. It is located in the town of Bad Bentheim between Gildehaus and Gronau. The Gildehauser Venn is considered one of the most valuable wetlands in northwest Germany in terms of natural history. The Gildehauser Venn is 740 hectares in size. Parts of the Fens were designated as a nature reserve as early as May 1938. In 1985, the nature reserve was designated in its current size of 650 ha. The core zone of the nature reserve, in which there is a complete ban on use, is 350 hectares in size. This nature reserve is largely part of the FFH area Gildehauser Venn with a size of 611.4 ha. In 1995, a maintenance and development plan for the Gildehauser Venn was drawn up. The district of Grafschaft Bentheim is responsible as the lower nature conservation authority.
