Welda Castle is a Baroque castle from the 18th century located in the Warburg district of Welda, Ferdinande-Von-Brackel-Straße 12. It is listed as a historical monument in Warburg.
The castle was built by the architect Justus Wehmer from 1734 to 1737. The client was Hermann Adolph von Haxthausen, the chief marshal of the Prince-Bishopric of Paderborn. The building resembles Vinsebeck Castle; both are Baroque castles with an H-shaped floor plan. The Kassel Baroque sculptor Johann Georg Kötschau was commissioned as the artist to create the figures. The castle stands on wooden piles and is surrounded by a moat. From 1756 to 1763, an orangery and outbuildings were constructed around the castle in Welda. The castle park covers an area of about one hectare and is a historic Baroque and landscape garden. The garden artist Carl Hatzel was responsible for the garden layout. A lime tree avenue leads from the southern approach to a rondel in front of the castle entrance. The orangery is now visually separated from the garden parterre, which still exists in outline, by planting. A conservation-restoration project for the park and the historical sight lines has been formulated as a long-term goal.
