The Verden Regional Court is one of six regional courts in the district of the Celle Higher Regional Court, along with the regional courts in Bückeburg, Hanover, Hildesheim, Lüneburg and Stade. It is based in Verden.
As part of the judicial reform in the Kingdom of Hanover, a higher court, the Verden High Court, was established in Verden in 1852. After the Court Constitution Act was passed in the German Empire in 1877, the seats of the new district courts were distributed. A first draft envisaged Stade to the disadvantage of Verden. After successful lobbying by some Verden citizens, a district court was finally to be established in both Stade and Verden. On the other hand, Nienburg, as another competitor for the seat of the court, lost its then higher court and was added to the district court of Verden.
