The Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium is a grammar school founded in 1972 in Hamelin. It is an all-day high school as well as a European and CertiLingua school. It is currently attended by 844 students.
Hamelin traditionally had two grammar schools, which were run in three classes. These were the Gymnasium for boys, which has a classical language and a mathematical-scientific branch, and the modern language girls' grammar school. Access was limited by an entrance examination or trial lesson. In 1965, the class frequencies in grades 5–10 were reduced from 40 to 35, trial lessons were dropped – and there was a lack of rooms and teachers. It was not until 1972 that a new grammar school was built in Hamelin by that of the Albert Einstein Grammar School.
