The bathing island Steinhude is an artificial island on the southern shore of the Steinhuder Meer near Steinhude, which was created in 1975.
The island is located on the southern shore of the lake directly near Steinhude. It is around 3.5 hectares in size, making it about three times as large as the lake island and fortress Wilhelmstein located in the Steinhuder Meer. The maximum north-south extension of the bathing island is 220 metres, from east to west it measures 330 metres. The bathing island was created in 1975 by the washing up of sand from the Steinhuder Meer. This led to a deepening of the lake near the island to about 1.5 m. Previously, the water in this area was only knee-deep and crossed by reed beds.
