The Ziegelroda Forest is a largely forested area of about 8,200 hectares, mostly located in Saxony-Anhalt, on the border with Thuringia. It stretches from the town of Nebra on the Unstrut river in the southeast to Allstedt in the northwest. The greatest extent in a north-south direction is about 18 km, and in an east-west direction, 12 km. The village located on a large clearing in the center of the forest gives it its name. Since 2004, Ziegelroda has been a district of Querfurt. The majority of the area is part of the Saale-Unstrut-Triasland Nature Park.
The forest is situated on the Ziegelroda Buntsandstein plateau, which adjoins the Querfurt plateau to the west. In terms of natural geography, it is classified as part of the Lower Unstrut Mountain and Hill region.
