It is assumed that a monastery courtyard was established on the site of an old castle. A fortified "tower and seat" is known, but nothing is known about its construction period.
The builders could only be the monastery bailiffs, the counts of Sulzbach in the 11th or early 12th centuries, or the Staufer in the late 12th or early 13th century. After 1504, the Nuremberg lords ordered its demolition. The stones of the tower were used for the masonry of the moat.
