The medieval to modern castle ruin Strahlenfels is the remnant of a former spur castle that once stood on a rock ridge at the edge of the village of Strahlenfels. Today, the castle ruin is located in the northern area of the municipality of Simmelsdorf in the middle Franconian district of Nürnberger Land in Bavaria, Germany. The Strahlenfels castle is completely gone, only a few remnants of the walls testify to its existence, and the castle rock serves as a climbing rock and viewpoint.
The site of the former castle is located at an elevation of 570 m above sea level in the southern part of the Franconian Switzerland, a part of the Franconian Jura low mountain range, on a rock spur projecting westward from the 587 m high Schlossberg. The castle site lies on a rocky elevation about 15 meters above the village, immediately east of the village area of Strahlenfels, which is located approximately 6.5 kilometers north-northeast of the core locality of Simmelsdorf.
