The company was founded in 1926 by Martin Jansen and Karl Kronenberg, both mechanical engineering masters from the Emden Nordseewerke, in Westrhauderfehn and operated as a family business until its insolvency in 1987. Initially, the focus was on retrofitting smaller vessels of the Fehn shipping under a relief act for small shipping companies from the Reich government. The first new construction was the freight motor ship Henriette, built in 1927. However, towing boats and flat-bottomed ships purchased from the Netherlands were also converted and motorized for local tidal navigation. In addition, other mechanical engineering activities were conducted, such as the motorization of drainage systems and windmills. Kronenberg left the company in 1931.
