The puppet theater of the city of Magdeburg is a municipal figure theater with its own permanent ensemble in the Magdeburg district of Buckau.
Starting from the example of the Soviet rod puppetry, ensemble theaters for puppet theater were established from 1951, especially in the district cities of the GDR, including in Magdeburg in 1958. The puppet players Jutta Balk and Gustel Möller were instrumental in the founding of a standing theater. Möller became the first artistic director of the "Municipal Puppet Stage". The first performance was presented by the then four-member ensemble on September 1, 1958 for the opening. The hand puppet production "Puss in Boots" was the first premiere.
