The Eltenberg, also called Elterberg or Eltenerberg, is a hill near the German border town of Elten. Elten comes from "altum," which means high.
The 'berg' has a height of 82.4 meters. From the Netherlands, this hill can be reached via a 'green border crossing' between Stokkum and Elten. This border crossing is a rural road that leads over Bundesautobahn 3 and is closed to cars. Between 1949 and 1963, the Eltenberg was part of the Netherlands. Geographically, it is still part of the hilly forest area of Montferland.
