Forest Cemetery Pechau

The cemetery is located in the immediate vicinity of the village of Pechau, which was incorporated into Magdeburg in 1994, west of Calenberger Straße, which connects Pechau with Prester. However, the cemetery grounds are outside the Pechau district in the Kreuzhorst area. The municipal boundary runs directly in front of the cemetery entrance. The cemetery surroundings are characterized by the Kreuzhorst forest, from which the name as a forest cemetery is derived. East of the cemetery runs the main access road to the Kreuzhorst nature reserve. The cemetery covers an area of 0.58 hectares and has a cemetery chapel that can accommodate 40 guests.
The original cemetery of the municipality of Pechau was the churchyard around the St. Thomas Church in the village. After the churchyard was fully occupied in 1962, the forest cemetery was laid out southwest of the village on an arable land on the edge of the Kreuzhorst. It is the youngest cemetery in Magdeburg. Since 1997, the cemetery has been under the municipal sponsorship of the city of Magdeburg. It is operated by the city's own company Stadtgarten und Friedhöfe Magdeburg.
