The Grünpot is located at the northern edge of the settlement of Grösdorf, to the right of the Altmühl, which has grown together with Kipfenberg. At the foot of a cliff on the lower valley slope, the karst spring emerges at approximately 390 m above sea level and drives a historical wooden watermill wheel. The flowing brook empties into the Altmühl after less than 300 meters.
The karst spring has an average flow rate of 140 liters per second and is directly connected to a sinkhole near Denkendorf. Contrast water tests conducted in 1958 in Denkendorf, about 5 km away, detected traces of the test salts in the water of the Grünpot a few hours later. The spring pot has a diameter of about 6 meters and shimmers slightly green.
