The Rendsburg city lake is a lake in the city of Rendsburg in the German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein. The lake is approximately 3.5 hectares in size and up to 1.5 meters deep. The city lake was created in 1893 during the construction of the Kiel Canal.
The city lake goes back to a narrow arm of the Eider that ran south of the old town, which was referred to as Holstengraben according to its geographical location. The old town itself was located on an island or a riverbank between the northern main arm of the Eider with the Obereider and the southern Holstengraben. Through the construction of a lock, the water level of the Obereider was eventually lowered, causing the old town to lose its original island position. Further construction measures completely cut off the lake from the Obereider in 1910. Even today, the former island location of Rendsburg can be recognized based on the Ober- and Untereider as well as the city lake.
