The Münster Hafen combined-cycle power plant is a combined-cycle power plant operated by Stadtwerke Münster. It is located directly on the basin of the city harbour I of the city of Münster. As part of combined heat and power generation, it generates electricity and heat.
In 2002, Stadtwerke Münster and the City of Münster, as shareholders of the municipal utilities, took the decision in principle to replace the coal-fired combined heat and power plant built in 1977 with a modern combined cycle power plant at the same location. The foundation stone of the new power plant was laid on 7 September 2004. The boilers were installed in November 2004 and the first gas turbine was delivered in March 2005. On November 17, 2005, the new facility was finally opened. The municipal utilities invested around 95 million euros in the construction.
