The Gommern Rock Garden is a collection of rocks in Gommern in the form of a garden. The collection represents the largest open-air rock collection in Germany.
The rock garden is intended to commemorate the mining of natural stone in Gommern over several centuries, which once represented an important economic pillar of the region. Since solid rock is rarely found in northern Germany, the quarries of Gommern, which were also conveniently located near the Elbe, were of great importance. As early as the Middle Ages, Gommern quartzite was used for important church buildings.
