The Mieke mine was a mine owned by the Ibbenbüren starch manufacturer Crespel & Deiter. From 1923 to 1946 the mine was operated with the "Alte Mieke" mine and from 1948 to 1964 with the mine "Neue Mieke".
The Alte Mieke mine was located above the Ibbenbüren district of Uffeln in the Tecklenburg region. On the road Up de Hee, roughly where the factory gate of the Westermann quarry rises today, the multi-ton Alte Mieke shaft was built. A narrow-gauge railway connected the mine with the Mittelland Canal, which was only a few hundred metres away, and the railway station in Hörstel. The Neue Mieke mine with the Hugo shaft was located a few metres north of the Alte Mieke, roughly where the screening plant stands today in the quarry.
