The Zwehrenturm, also known as the Zwehrener Tower, is a remnant of the former city fortifications of Kassel, which were demolished between 1767 and 1774. It was built in 1330 in the Gothic style and served as a city gate towards Frankfurt. Until the 17th century, a prison for prisoners of higher status was established in the lower part of the tower, mostly coming from the environment of the Hessian court.
