The sixth and northernmost nature park in Schleswig-Holstein was formally recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture on October 30, 2008. The sponsor is the Association Naturpark Schlei, which was founded in the summer of 2008. The declared aim of the nature park is to strengthen the Schlei region as a living, recreational, natural, and economic area.
