The Jachen is an approximately 23-kilometer-long river in Bavaria and a left or western tributary of the Isar. It is the natural outflow of the Walchensee near Niedernach, which has been blocked since 1924 by a weir in favor of the Walchensee hydroelectric power station.
Until the 1950s, the Jachen was historically used for the drift of timber cut around the Walchensee and in the Jachenau. After the blockage at Niedernach, the Bavarian State committed to providing supplemental water for the drift of timber quantities for 60 consecutive days each year between spring and August 15. The Jachenau has not made use of this right in recent decades, as all wood is now transported out of the valley by truck.
