The chapel on Fürstenberg is located at the summit of the mountain of the same name in the area of the municipality of Ense. Its origin dates back to the 15th century.
On the mountain stood the Electorate of Cologne's castle Burg Fürstenberg, which was first mentioned in 1295. At the same time, Hermann von Fürstenberg was referred to as a castle man, the first representative of the Westphalian noble family of Fürstenberg. He came from the family of Binolen but named himself after the castle.
