The Northern Regnitz or Lower Regnitz is a right tributary of the Saxon Saale in the district of Hof in Upper Franconia.
It has two source streams. The first springs at about 570 m above sea level between Münchenreuth and Gutenfürst and is called Heubach in its upper reaches, then Litschenbach after a pond near the hamlet of Föhrig. The second is the Aubach, which has its source at about 580 m above sea level near the Feilitzsch district of Unterhartmannsreuth. The confluence is located precisely below the A72 motorway, just west of the Hochfranken motorway interchange. From here, the Regnitz flows southwest through Feilitzsch and reaches the Saale at the village of Unterkotzau, which was incorporated into Hof in 1972, at 465 m above sea level. Its total length, including the Litschenbach, is about 10 km.
