The Bramstedt Castle in Bad Bramstedt in Schleswig-Holstein originated from the noble estate of the same name. The main building of the castle was demolished in the 18th century, and since then the name has been transferred to the former gatehouse of the estate, which was converted into a residence in the Rococo style in the 18th century. The building now serves as the cultural center of the town.
The Bramstedt estate developed from a medieval lordship, and the rights of a noble estate were granted to the town in 1540. A peculiarity was that the estate was originally not owned by any of the Holstein nobility, but derived from the possession of the large farmer Dirk Vaget and later came into the possession of an employee of the Danish king named Caspar Fuchs. Another peculiarity was that not all the lands of the town belonged to the estate. The ownership was distributed like a patchwork quilt around Bramstedt and was managed not only by the estate owner and his serfs but also by freeholders, known as office farmers. This led to repeated conflicts between the parties throughout the history of the estate. Following Caspar Fuchs, Gerhard Steding became the next owner, after whom the estate became known as Stedingshof. In 1628, a fire destroyed the existing buildings of the estate.
