Schönhagen Castle is the heritage-protected central building of the former manor and today's seaside resort of Schönhagen, which belongs to the municipality of Brodersby. It is located behind the characteristic steep coast of Schönhagen on the Baltic Sea.
The Schönhagen manor was established in 1711 after separating from the Olpenis manor. From 1712 to 1754, it belonged to the owners of the Loitmark manor and was regarded as a farmstead of this estate. In 1712, Schönhagen belonged to Colonel Joachim Dietrich von Dewitz, brother of General Franz Joachim von Dewitz. It then changed hands among various owners. By 1840, the estate had an area of 1276 tax tons, corresponding to nearly 2,500 acres, and housed 64 families with a total of 310 residents. The dependencies were the village of Höxmark and half of the village of Brodersby, as well as Nordhagen and Kiekut.
