The Gelster is a 17.5 km long left or southwestern tributary of the Werra in the Werra-Meißner district in northeastern Hesse, Germany.
The Gelster, which is one of the largest tributaries of the Werra in Hesse, flows entirely within the Geo-Nature Park Frau-Holle-Land and originates on the northern slope of the Hirschberg, which rises as the highest mountain of the Kaufunger Forest southwest of Großalmerode. The source is located on a marshy plateau at about 470 to 480 m, on the Pfaffenberg, a northern foothill of the Hirschberg near Federal Highway 451 at about 455 m.
