Correctional Facility Rosdorf

The Rosdorf Correctional Facility is located on the outskirts of Göttingen in the municipality of Rosdorf. The Lower Saxony Correctional Facility commenced regular operations after the completion of the new building in June 2007. The facility serves as a replacement for the former, now closed, Göttingen Correctional Facility. It is classified as a facility of security level II and has a high-security unit of security level I with 10 detention places. The JVA Rosdorf is nearly identical in construction to the Oldenburg Correctional Facility.
At the JVA Rosdorf, sentences of up to 14 years are served for male adults in closed custody. Additionally, the JVA is responsible for the execution of remand detention. The local jurisdiction is determined by the Lower Saxony admission and execution plan. Remand detention warrants from a total of 14 Lower Saxony district court districts are enforced at JVA Rosdorf. This includes the entire district court area of Göttingen as well as parts of the district court areas of Hildesheim, Elze, Holzminden, and Braunschweig, as well as the district court of Hameln. Prison sentences are executed primarily for inmates from the district court areas of Göttingen, Bückeburg, Hildesheim, Braunschweig, and Hanover, where the sentence length ultimately determines which facility a convicted offender is assigned to. Furthermore, prisoners are assigned by the central admission department for Lower Saxony, the JVA Hannover.
