The Dessau Puppet Theatre is a puppet theatre in Dessau-Roßlau and a branch of the Anhalt Theatre.
As a direct reaction to Obraszow's guest performance in the GDR, the city council of Dessau decided in 1954 to found a puppet theatre under municipal management and took over the puppet collection and stage equipment of Rudolf Zilling's hand puppet theatre. As a permanent venue, the theatre was given the former hall of a Masonic lodge on Ferdinand-v.-Schill-Straße in the Neustadt of Dessau. The stage was thus one of the oldest municipal puppet theatre foundations in the territory of the former GDR. The repertoire consisted mainly of child-friendly productions. In addition to hand puppets, stick puppets based on the Soviet model were increasingly used. In 1981, the puppet theatre was assigned as the fifth division of the then State Theatre.
