The Goitzschesee gauge tower is a tower in the northern part of the Great Goitzsche Lake near the village of Bitterfeld.
Its name is derived from the unique construction of its kind: the entire visible tower floats on the water surface of the Great Goitzsche Lake and is guided inside by a support that is firmly anchored to the bottom of the lake in a solid concrete foundation. This allows the tower to move up and down on the inner support depending on the water level – similar to a float at a water gauge. In addition, the tower is thus secured against "capsizing".
