Aldegrever Gymnasium

The Aldegrever-Gymnasium is a municipal grammar school in Soest, Germany. It is a European school and a base school of the DFB.
The Aldegrever Gymnasium was founded on 27 January 1868 as a "pupil chastisement institution". The first class had 29 students. The foundation was mainly due to the need for a basic scientific education with the onset of industrialization. A humanistic education with good Latin and Greek language skills was considered indispensable. In the years after 1871, the school was caught up in the Kulturkampf. There were disputes about the denominational composition of the school board of trustees, about the rental of the first school building, which later became the sexton's house of the Hohne parish, and about the merger of the Catholic and municipal rectorate schools, which took place in 1874.
