The Monastery of St. Paul is a former Dominican monastery in Brandenburg an der Havel in the area of the New Town. Today, the Archaeological State Museum Brandenburg is located inside it.
After the margraves of Brandenburg left the old castle on the Cathedral Island of Brandenburg, the Ascanian family chose an area on the southwestern edge of the New Town of Brandenburg as the site of their residence. The New Town was purposefully founded and laid out by the margraves of Brandenburg before 1196.
